Well done everyone for batting through one of the rainiest winters I can remember. What a joy it was to get soaked through twice a day with the dogs and return with ten muddy feet and two muddy tummies (the dogs, not me).
Happily, the daffodils are out, which super-supporters will know are my very favourite flower. During my stint in the Big Brother House I casually referred to my lady parts as being like a ‘battered daffodil’ without appreciating that this would make front-page news in the tabloids.
It’s only a couple of weeks now before we kick off the Free Range Tour across all the theatres that would have us in the UK. We try so hard to get theatres to say yes, but the crazy need to please the weakest in society means that so many say no. In Guernsey an elected representative questioned why we were allowed to bring our sold-out show to the island. It was very uplifting to see so many people get stuck in and point out the simple mantra: ‘Want to come, buy a ticket. Don’t want to come, stay home'. As I like to remind our side, this fight was always going to be an uphill struggle. I like to think it helps tone my arse. We cannot wait to see you on the road.
I also wanted to thank you for all your appreciation of my speech at the Cambridge Union. As you can imagine, when I accept an invitation to the University I know I am campus enemy number one. Dressing as ‘Nazi Elvis’ is very much part of letting the kids know I didn’t come to apologise. And I still think it is important to go and educate these cosseted young people. Many are shocked by me. But I would argue they would be more shocked by the real world if they ever went near it.
What a blessing it is to have so many of you rocking up at Katie’s Arms, our pub online, to enjoy a laugh and take 30 minutes off from the world. The pub is now date night for some, a Sunday morning morale boost for others, and a glimpse into life across the pond for many Americans. It is such a powerful thing for our regulars to see people laughing along all over the world and I am super proud of the joy we are bringing into people’s homes.
